Pictorial Project Description:
In the last several months, I have been exploring minimalism as a way of projection and abstraction. Although I often make photographs in a range of colors, objects, and format, the simplicity of minimalism reduces nature to its basics to reveal the underlying beauty of structure and form. The austere images in this series reduce nature to its essential elements. Then we can appreciate its simple complexity and remaining beauty.
Monochrome minimalism highlights the natural elements in our world. Minimalist photography is itself a metaphor of simplicity and essential beauty. In the abstractions transcending color and context, the images focus on one’s own perception and interpretation. Not unlike a Rorschach inkblot, interpreting these images reveals potential insights into our relationship of inner dynamics to the world and prompts reflection and introspection.

Michael C. Roberts is a mostly retired pediatric psychologist who, during the pandemic, painted rocks and dropped them around his neighborhood as inspiration and motivation. He cannot paint with any artistry, so maybe they were not very inspirational. He returned to photography as a creative outlet. His images have been published in several literary magazines and on journal covers. A photographic book is available on Amazon: "Imaging the World with Plastic Cameras: Diana and Holga.”
